East Africa Art Biennale 2011

2-16 November 2011. Goethe Institut inaugurates this edition of the East Africa Art Biennale (EASTAFAB) with an exhibition by various domestic visual artists coming from five East African countries such as Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. Its intent is to promote visual art through exhibitions and exchange of ideas.

This exhibition will be opened at Goethe Institut on 3 November at 18.30. On display will be recent paintings, sculptures, photographs, ceramics and installations among the others by Gadi Ramadhan.

These works will be contemporarily displayed at six different venues across the city, such as Goethe-Institut, Alliance Francaise, Nafasi Art Centre, La Petite Galerie and two hotels, Southern Sun and Mövenpick Hotels. The Biennale 2011 will also host international guest artists from other countries around Africa, Europe and the USA, such as Jan van Esch, Phidelice Gervas, Robino Ntilla and Thobias Minzi. There will be performances to entertain and attract the fine arts' enthusiasts from one venue to the other.

The official launching of the Biennale, which will take place at the Alliance Francaise, will be marked by a special ceremony featuring shows from different performing artists. The Nafasi Art Space will host the premiere of a West African drama entitled Letters from Sahara starting on 2 November.
