Dar es Salaam residents have been asked to register for free insecticide-treated mosquito bed nets from 12 August to September as part of a government anti-malaria campaign.
Those who registered will receive free mosquito nets between 9-13 September. Another aspect of the anti-malaria programme is the larvicide spraying project in the city’s wetlands which began in early July.
According to government statistics, about 16-18 million people suffer from malaria annually, accounting for between 30 and 40 per cent of all recorded diseases in the country.
Tanzania’s National Malaria Control Programme is planning to distribute 14 million treated nets throughout the country.
The nets are produced by the A to Z Textiles in Kisongo near Arusha.
